Hi, thanks for following the SLE programme. In the background are the Ellsworth Mountains which contain Mount Vinson (4892m), the highest peak in Antarctica. They are over 100km from the drill site. On the ‘other side’ is the great expanse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet and so the view is flat and white in all other directions.
